Castles of Aragon
Amazing trip to the castles of Monzón, Alquézar, Loarre the Aljafarería, Daroca, Albarracín, Mora de Rubielos and Teruel.
DAY 1: POINT OF ORIGIN – HUESCA
Departing from your point of origin to Huesca. Arrival at Hotel Pedro I de Aragón, dinner and overnight.
DAY 2: HUESCA- MONZÓN – ALQUEZAR – HUESCA
Breakfast and departure to Monzón; visit to the castle. This fortress stands on a steep hill slopes, is the meeting place of the courts of the three kingdoms of the Crown of Aragon. It’s a National Monument. The first fort, called Mancones is from the XVII-XVIII c. Lunch at the restaurant Piscis. In the afternoon: Huesca road, passing by Alquézar, center of the Sierra de Guara. We will see its narrow streets, emblazoned facades, round arch portals, the church of San Miguel-XVI century-, and the Muslim castle from the IX c. Back to Huesca, dinner and overnight at the Hotel Pedro I of Aragon.
DAY 3: HUESCA – LOARRE – HUESCA
Breakfast and departure to Loarre. It is the most important castle in Aragon and a National Monument. Architecturally, this is one of the most perfect examples of the Romanesque art. The castle is surrounded by a long wall. Lunch en route. Back to the hotel, free afternoon, dinner and overnight at the Hotel Pedro I of Aragon.
DAY 4: HUESCA – The Aljafería (ZARAGOZA) – HUESCA
Breakfast and departure to Zaragoza. Visit the Aljafería, hammer-palace and National Monument, built in the XI century as the playground for the Taifa Kings, which later became headquarters. Since 1947 has been in restoration process to restore all its glory. It is currently home to the Cortes of Aragon. Lunch in Zaragoza. Visit the Basilica del Pilar, which include ‘the dome’ painted by Goya. Afternoon: return to Hotel Pedro I of Aragon. Dinner and overnight.
DAY 5: HUESCA – DAROCA – TERUEL
Breakfast and departure with luggage towards Daroca, village in the province of Teruel, which is an interesting fortification surrounded by walls. It includes: the low door, the towers and the high door. The extensive ruins of the castle more nearly merged with the hill overlooking the collegiate Andador. And finally, the castle of the Jewry, which is also practically in ruins. Lunch. Trip to Teruel. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Reina Cristina.
DAY 6: TERUEL – ALBARRACÍN – TERUEL
Breakfast and departure towards Albarracín. Visit to Albarracín, picturesque town declared a National Monument. Its urban, medieval mechanism remains virtually intact. The recent oldest city gathered around the stately castle, situated on a high rock. Lunch at the hotel Albarracín. Afternoon: return to Hotel Reina Cristina, dinner and overnight.
DAY 7: TERUEL – MORA DE RUBIELOS – TERUEL
Breakfast and departure to Mora de Rubielos. This castle is located on top of a hill in the Sierra de Gúdar. Its outer walls are severe and very closed (XIII century, Gothic style). Also visit the former Gothic collegiate church of Santa Maria. Visit to the walls and the chapels of the Ermita de la Dolorosa -XV century. Lunch at the Hotel Mora de Aragón. Afternoon: return to Hotel Reina Cristina. Free afternoon, dinner and overnight.
DAY 8: TERUEL – POINT OF ORIGIN
Breakfast and departure to your point of origin.
